Founded in 2011, M E Hews and Company, LLC is owned by Mark and Debi Hews of Poland Spring, Maine. As President, Mark has extensive experience in facilitation, project management, and natural resource economic development. A native of Aroostook County with family history in the potato business, Mark understands the challenges rural areas face when it comes to community and economic development. Trained in organizational and leadership development, he has worked for years to find successful “stay options” for rural residents. Mark served with the US Department of Agriculture in Maine for 32 years, 22 of which as the Coordinator of the Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Program in southern and western Maine. Most recently he served as the Director of Programming for the Maine Association of Nonprofits responsible for all education and learning products for nonprofit members and the nonprofit sector. Mark has worked with individuals, communities, and businesses statewide tackling issues ranging from the expansion of the agriculture industry to mediating conflicts between competing natural resource interests. Mark is a past board member for the New England Farmers Union, a past Commissioner on the Maine Commission for Community Service, Board member for the Threshold To Maine Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area, and served on the Steering Committee for the Maine Food Strategy. Mark also serves as President of the New England Association of Areas, First Vice-President of the National Association of RC&D Councils, and on the Leadership Council for the National Small Business Association.
